I have bound my weblog to internationalized domain names (IDN). If you are using Netscape 7.1 or Mozilla 1.4, you can now access this blog by typing Chinese characters directly into the address bar:
- http://张尔宁.cn (Punycode:
xn--w9s3m31f.cn, simplified Chinese) - http://張爾寧.cn (Punycode:
xn--tdtt0fy0x.cn, traditional Chinese)
IDN works by encoding Unicode characters into an ASCII-compatible format called Punycode, so that existing DNS infrastructure can handle non-Latin domain names without modification. It is exciting to see my own name in Chinese right there in the URL.
