I installed Familiar 0.7 stable with the GPE desktop on my brother’s iPAQ 3870. It looks and feels much better than the previous version — the interface is cleaner, and the whole system runs noticeably smoother.
The real achievement, though, was getting GPRS dial-up working over Bluetooth. After some fiddling with the configuration, I finally had the iPAQ connecting to the Internet through a Bluetooth-paired mobile phone. Mobile Internet on a PDA in 2003 — it felt like the future.
Unfortunately, I had broken the Bluetooth chip on my own 3870 a while back, and it could not be repaired. So my brother gets to enjoy the wireless Internet, and I just get to watch. :-(
