DNS-DIY: 12,000 Zones and Counting

DNS-DIY is a DNS management and control system that I built for handling large numbers of zones. After three months in production, it currently hosts 12,471 zones, and that number grows every day. Based on the server’s resource usage so far, I believe the system can comfortably scale to 100,000 zones on the current hardware without any issues.

For now, DNS-DIY only accepts domain names registered through OnlineNIC, which is a business policy decision. The system handles zone creation, updates, and DNS propagation automatically, giving registrants a self-service way to manage their DNS records.
