Hibernation Problem on Computers with 1 GB of RAM

If your laptop has 1 GB of RAM or more, you may find that Windows XP refuses to hibernate. I ran into this problem and spent an entire afternoon searching the Internet for a solution. Eventually, I found the answer buried in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article and its accompanying hotfix.
